The primary objective in Anubis Solitaire is to remove all cards from the pyramid and the stock by pairing exposed cards whose values total exactly 13. Kings, valued at 13, are removed singly.
Setup & Layout:
Deck(s) Used: Anubis Solitaire typically uses two standard 52-card decks (104 cards total).
Pyramid Layout:
45 cards are dealt to form the pyramid.
The pyramid is constructed in overlapping rows: the first row has 1 card, the second row has 2 cards, the third row has 3 cards, and so on, until the final (ninth) row, which contains 9 cards.
All pyramid cards are dealt face-up and overlap the cards below them, so each card (except those in the bottom row) partially covers two cards in the row beneath.
Stock and Waste Piles:
The remaining cards (59 cards if using two decks) form the stock.
There are three waste piles next to the stock.
When drawing from the stock, one card is dealt face-up to each waste pile.
Discard Pile: Removed cards are placed in a separate discard area.
Anubis Solitaire Rules:
Card Values:
Ace = 1
2–10 = face value
Jack = 11
Queen = 12
King = 13
Pairing and Removal:
Only exposed cards (not overlapped by any other card) can be paired and removed.
Pairs of cards whose values sum to 13 can be removed together.
Kings (value 13) are removed singly, without a pair.
Stock and Waste Pile Use:
When drawing from the stock, three cards are dealt at once, one to each waste pile, all face-up.
Only the top card of each waste pile is available for pairing.
Building Sequences: There is no building by suit or color; only removal of pairs totaling 13 or single Kings.
Gameplay:
Turn Sequence:
Identify and remove any available pairs of exposed cards (from the pyramid and/or the top cards of the waste piles) that sum to 13.
Remove any exposed Kings immediately.
If no moves are available, draw three cards from the stock (one to each waste pile).
Continue pairing and removing cards as possible, using both the pyramid and waste piles.
Introducing New Cards:
Cards are only introduced into play by drawing from the stock to the waste piles.
Only the top card of each waste pile is playable at any time.
No More Moves:
If no pairs or Kings can be removed and the stock is exhausted (after the allowed passes), the game ends.
Winning & Losing Conditions:
Winning Condition: The game is won when all cards from both the pyramid and the stock/waste piles have been removed according to the pairing rules.
Losing Condition: The game is lost if there are no possible legal moves remaining and cards still remain in the pyramid or waste piles after all allowed passes through the stock.
Special Rules & Edge Cases:
Stock Pass Limit: You may cycle through the stock only a limited number of times (usually twice, but some versions allow three passes).
Empty Spaces:
Pyramid: Empty spaces in the pyramid are not filled; once a card is removed, it remains empty.
Waste Piles: When a waste pile is empty, the next card from the stock will fill it on the next deal. You cannot move cards between waste piles or refill them manually.
Pairing Restrictions:
Only two cards may be paired to sum to 13; combinations of three or more cards are not allowed.
Only fully exposed cards (not overlapped by any other card) can be selected for pairing or removal.
No Movement: Cards cannot be moved between the pyramid, waste piles, or discard pile for any purpose other than pairing for removal.
No Suit or Color Restrictions: Pairing is based solely on card value; suits and colors are irrelevant.
Note: Some minor rule variations exist between implementations (such as the number of stock passes or pyramid size), but the above reflects the most widely accepted and referenced rules for Anubis Solitaire.
