How to play Ripple Fan?

Game Objective:

The primary goal in Ripple Fan Solitaire is to move all cards from the tableau to the foundations, building each foundation up in suit from Ace to King.

Setup & Layout:

  • Deck: Use a standard 52-card deck.
  • Tableau: Deal 13 piles (called "fans") with four cards each, for a total of 52 cards.
  • Card Orientation: All cards are dealt face-up in the tableau.
  • Play Areas:
  • Tableau: The 13 piles of four cards each, arranged in a row or grid. Each pile is a "fan."
  • Foundations: Four spaces above or beside the tableau, one for each suit, to be built from Ace to King.
  • Stock, Reserve, or Cells: There are no stock, reserve, or cell piles in this variant.

Ripple Fan Solitaire Rules:

  • Card Movement:
  • Only the top card of each tableau pile is available for play.
  • Building on Tableau:
  • Cards in the tableau are built down in suit (e.g., 7♣ can be placed on 8♣).
  • Only one card may be moved at a time.
  • Moving to Foundations:
  • Foundations are built up in suit, starting with the Ace and ending with the King (e.g., A♠, 2♠, 3♠, …, K♠).
  • Only the top card of a tableau pile can be moved to a foundation.
  • Empty Piles:
  • Empty tableau piles may not be filled; once a pile is empty, it remains empty for the rest of the game.

Gameplay:

  • On each turn, the player may:
  • Move any available Ace from the tableau to a foundation.
  • Move a top card from one tableau pile to another, provided it is built down in suit.
  • Move a top card from the tableau to the appropriate foundation, building up in suit.
  • No redeals are permitted; all cards are in play from the start.
  • If no legal moves are available, play ends.

Winning & Losing Conditions:

  • Win Condition: The game is won when all cards are moved to the foundations, with each foundation built up from Ace to King in suit.
  • Loss Condition: The game is lost (unwinnable) if no further legal moves are possible and not all cards have been moved to the foundations.

Special Rules & Edge Cases:

  • Empty Tableau Piles:
  • Cannot be filled under any circumstances; once a pile is empty, it stays empty.
  • No Multiple Moves:
  • Only one card may be moved at a time; sequences or groups of cards cannot be moved together.
  • No Redeal:
  • There is no stock and no redeal; all cards are dealt and visible from the start.
  • No Reserve or Cells:
  • There are no reserve piles or free cells in this variant.
  • Card Access:
  • Only the top card of each tableau pile is accessible for moves or to be placed on the foundation.

Note: Ripple Fan Solitaire is a challenging variant due to the restriction on filling empty tableau piles and the requirement to build strictly in suit. Strategic planning is essential to avoid blocking crucial cards.
