The primary goal in Yukon Kings Solitaire is to move all 52 cards from the tableau to the four foundation piles, building each foundation in ascending order by suit, starting with Ace and ending with King.
Setup & Layout:
Deck: Use a standard 52-card deck with no Jokers.
Tableau: Arrange seven columns (tableau piles) from left to right:
1st column: 1 card, face up.
2nd column: 6 cards (1 face down, 5 face up).
3rd column: 7 cards (2 face down, 5 face up).
4th column: 8 cards (3 face down, 5 face up).
5th column: 9 cards (4 face down, 5 face up).
6th column: 10 cards (5 face down, 5 face up).
7th column: 11 cards (6 face down, 5 face up).
Foundations: Four empty piles, one for each suit, to be built up from Ace to King.
Stock/Reserve: There is no stock or reserve pile in Yukon Kings Solitaire; all cards are dealt at the start.
Face Orientation: Only the bottom-most cards of each tableau pile are face down as specified above; all other cards in each pile are dealt face up.
Yukon Kings Solitaire Rules:
Card Movement: Only face-up cards may be moved.
Building in Tableau: Cards are built down by alternating color (red on black or black on red) and by descending rank (e.g., a red 7 on a black 8).
Moving Groups: Any face-up card and all cards stacked above it (regardless of sequence) may be moved together as a unit to another tableau pile, provided the move follows the alternating color and descending rank rule.
Exposing Cards: When a face-down card is uncovered in the tableau, it is immediately turned face up and becomes available for play.
Foundations: Foundations are built up by suit, starting with Ace and ending with King (A → 2 → … → K).
Moving to Foundations: Only the top card of a tableau pile (or a face-up card with no cards above it) can be moved to a foundation.
Gameplay:
On each turn, the player may:
Move any face-up card (along with all cards atop it) to another tableau pile, following the alternating color and descending rank rule.
Move any Ace (when uncovered) to an empty foundation pile.
Build up foundations by moving the next card in sequence and suit onto an existing foundation pile.
Turn face up any face-down card that becomes exposed.
There is no stock to draw from; all cards are in play from the start.
If a tableau column becomes empty, it may only be filled with a King or a group of cards headed by a King.
Play continues until no more legal moves are available or all cards are moved to the foundations.
Winning & Losing Conditions:
Winning: The game is won when all 52 cards have been moved to the foundation piles, each built up in suit from Ace to King.
Losing: The game is lost or becomes unwinnable if no legal moves remain and not all cards have been moved to the foundations.
Special Rules & Edge Cases:
Filling Empty Tableau Spaces: Only a King, or a group of cards with a King at the bottom, may be placed in an empty tableau column.
Moving Groups Regardless of Sequence: Unlike Klondike, you may move a group of face-up cards even if they are not in perfect descending order, as long as the card you are moving is placed on a card of the opposite color and one rank higher.
Foundation to Tableau Movement: Some versions permit moving cards from the foundation back to the tableau, though this is not universal and should be confirmed for the specific implementation you are playing.
No Redeal: There is no redeal or stock; all cards are dealt at the start and must be played from the tableau.
Exposing Face-Down Cards: Always turn face up any face-down card that becomes exposed as a result of a move.
Definitions:
Tableau: The main play area consisting of seven columns where cards are arranged in descending order and alternating colors.
Foundation: Four piles, one per suit, where cards are built up from Ace to King.
Face-Up/Face-Down: Face-up cards are visible and playable; face-down cards are hidden until uncovered.
This ruleset reflects the unique mechanics of Yukon Kings Solitaire, emphasizing its distinct tableau movement and absence of a stock pile.
