How to play Astrocyte?

No official or widely recognized ruleset for Astrocyte Solitaire is found in current search results, nor is it referenced in major solitaire rule indexes. Therefore, the following guide is constructed based on standard solitaire conventions and logical inference, with clear notation where rules are speculative.

Game Objective

The primary goal is to move all cards from the tableau and stock to the foundation piles, building each foundation from Ace to King by suit.

Setup & Layout

  • Deck: Standard 52-card deck.
  • Tableau: Seven columns. Cards are dealt left to right:
    • First column: 1 card (face up)
    • Second column: 2 cards (top card face up, rest face down)
    • Continue this pattern up to the seventh column (7 cards; top card face up, rest face down)
  • Foundations: Four empty piles, one for each suit.
  • Stock: Remaining cards after tableau setup, placed face down.
  • Waste: Cards drawn from the stock are placed face up in a single pile.
  • Cells/Reserve: No evidence of reserve or cell areas in this variant.

Astrocyte Solitaire Rules

  • Building on Tableau: Cards are built down in rank, alternating colors (e.g., a red 7 can be placed on a black 8), similar to Klondike Solitaire conventions.
  • Moving Cards: Only the top face-up card of each tableau pile is available for play. Sequences in correct descending order and alternating colors may be moved as a unit.
  • Foundations: Build up by suit from Ace to King.
  • Stock/Waste: When no moves are possible on the tableau, draw one card from the stock to the waste pile. The top card of the waste is available for play.
  • Empty Tableau Spaces: Only a King (or a sequence starting with a King) may be placed in an empty tableau column.

Gameplay

  • On each turn, the player may:
    • Move a face-up card (or valid sequence) from one tableau column to another, following building rules.
    • Move a face-up card to a foundation if it is the next in sequence by suit.
    • Draw a card from the stock to the waste when no tableau moves are possible.
    • Move the top waste card to the tableau or foundation if legal.
  • Cards are revealed (turned face up) when the covering card is moved away.
  • Play continues until all cards are moved to the foundations or no legal moves remain.

Winning & Losing Conditions

  • Win: All cards are successfully moved to the foundation piles, completing each suit from Ace to King.
  • Lose: The game is lost if no legal moves remain and the stock is exhausted, with cards still left on the tableau or waste.

Special Rules & Edge Cases

  • Filling Empty Spaces: Only Kings (or sequences starting with a King) may be placed in empty tableau columns.
  • Stock Exhaustion: If the stock is empty and no moves are possible, the game ends.
  • No Redeals: Once the stock is depleted, no redeal is permitted.
  • Sequence Movement: Only sequences in descending order and alternating colors may be moved as a group.
  • Card Reveal: When a face-down card is uncovered in the tableau, it is immediately turned face up.
