The primary goal in Cicely Solitaire is to move all cards from the tableau and cells to the foundations, building four foundations up by suit from Ace to King and four foundations down by suit from King to Ace.
Setup & Layout:
Deck: Cicely Solitaire uses a standard double deck (104 cards: two standard 52-card decks combined).
Initial Deal:
Cells: Eight cells are each dealt one card face-up. These are available for play.
Tableau: Eight tableau piles are each dealt four cards face-up, splayed downward so all cards are visible.
Foundations: There are eight foundation piles—four for building up (starting with Ace), four for building down (starting with King).
Stock: The remaining cards form the stock, which is used to deal new cards to tableau piles during play.
Face Orientation: All cards in tableau and cells are dealt face-up.
Cicely Solitaire Rules:
Card Movement:
Only the top card of each tableau pile and each cell is available for play.
Cards are moved to foundations according to suit:
Ace Foundations: Built up in suit from Ace to King.
King Foundations: Built down in suit from King to Ace.
Tableau Building:
Tableau piles can be built either up or down by suit (e.g., 7♠ onto 6♠ or 8♠).
Only one card may be moved at a time. However, as a time-saving measure, you may move an additional card for every empty cell, simulating multiple moves.
Cell Usage:
Empty cells can be filled with any top card from the tableau piles.
Foundation Interaction:
When the two foundation piles of the same suit meet (i.e., the Ace and King foundations for a suit are contiguous), cards may be moved between them to complete sequences.
Gameplay:
Typical Turn Sequence:
Move available cards from tableau or cells to foundations or to other tableau piles according to the building rules.
Fill empty cells with any top card from tableau piles.
After all possible moves are made, deal four new cards from the stock to the top of each tableau pile (including empty ones).
Introducing New Cards:
Empty tableau piles are automatically dealt four new cards from the stock when the next deal occurs.
No Redeals:
Once the stock is exhausted, no redeals are permitted in Cicely Solitaire.
When No Moves Remain:
If no legal moves are possible and the stock is depleted, the game ends.
Winning & Losing Conditions:
Winning: The game is won when all cards are successfully moved to the eight foundations, built up and down by suit as specified.
Losing: The game is lost (or unwinnable) if no legal moves remain and the stock is depleted, leaving cards stranded in the tableau or cells.
Special Rules & Edge Cases:
Filling Empty Tableau Piles:
Empty tableau piles are automatically filled with four new cards from the stock during the next deal.
Filling Empty Cells:
Empty cells may be filled at any time by any top card from the tableau piles.
Foundation Merging:
If the Ace and King foundations of the same suit meet, cards may be transferred between them to facilitate completion of the sequence.
Movement Restriction:
Only single cards may be moved at a time, except for the time-saving rule allowing multiple moves if empty cells are available.
No Tableau Redeal:
Unlike its predecessor Tournament, Cicely Solitaire does not allow redealing the tableau once the stock is exhausted.
Definitions:
Tableau: The primary play area with eight piles where cards are built up or down by suit.
Cells: Eight single-card spaces that temporarily hold cards and aid in maneuvering.
Foundations: Eight piles (four Ace, four King) where cards are built up or down by suit to achieve the game objective.
Stock: The remaining undealt cards used to replenish the tableau piles.
