How to play Coyote?

Game Objective:

The primary goal in Coyote Solitaire is to move all cards from the tableau, reserve, and stock to the four foundations, building each foundation up in ascending order by suit from Ace to King.

Setup & Layout:

  • Deck: Use a standard 52-card deck.
  • Foundations: Four piles, each starting with an Ace of a different suit placed face-up.
  • Tableau: Four tableau piles, each containing one card dealt face-up.
  • Reserve: One reserve pile, with a single card dealt face-up.
  • Stock: The remaining cards form the stock pile, placed face-down.
  • Waste: A waste pile is created during play; cards are dealt here from the stock and the top card is always face-up and available for play.

Play Areas Defined:

  • Foundations: Build up by suit from Ace to King.
  • Tableau: Build down by suit; only the top card (or a valid sequence) is available for movement.
  • Reserve: Only the top card is available for play.
  • Stock: Draw cards one at a time to the waste.
  • Waste: Only the top card is available for play.

Coyote Solitaire Rules:

  • Foundations:
  • Build up by suit (e.g., 2♠ on Ace♠, then 3♠, etc.).
  • Tableau:
  • Build down by suit (e.g., 6♠ on 7♠).
  • Any card may be moved to an empty tableau space.
  • Sequences built down by suit may be moved together as a group.
  • Reserve:
  • Only the top card is playable.
  • Stock & Waste:
  • Draw one card at a time from the stock to the waste.
  • Only the top card of the waste is playable.
  • A single redeal is allowed: when the stock is depleted, the waste may be turned over to form a new stock, allowing two complete passes through the deck.

Gameplay:

  1. Move cards to the foundations whenever possible, following suit and ascending order.
  2. Build tableau piles down by suit using available cards from the tableau, reserve, or waste.
  3. Move sequences: If a sequence is built down by suit in the tableau, the entire sequence can be moved to another tableau pile or to an empty tableau space.
  4. Fill empty tableau spaces with any available card or valid sequence.
  5. Draw from the stock: When no other moves are possible or desired, draw one card from the stock to the waste.
  6. Play from the reserve: The top card of the reserve can be played to the tableau or foundation at any time.
  7. Redeal: When the stock is empty, turn over the waste to form a new stock pile. Only one redeal is allowed per game.
  8. Repeat steps 1-7 until all cards are moved to the foundations or no more moves are possible.

If no legal moves are available and the stock and waste are exhausted (with no redeal remaining), the game ends.

Winning & Losing Conditions:

  • Win: The game is won when all cards have been moved to the four foundations, each built up from Ace to King in the same suit.
  • Lose: The game is lost if no legal moves remain and not all cards are in the foundations (i.e., cards are stuck in the tableau, reserve, or waste, and no redeal remains).

Special Rules & Edge Cases:

  • Empty Tableau Spaces: Any card or valid sequence built down by suit may be moved to an empty tableau space.
  • Moving Sequences: Only sequences built down by suit can be moved together; partial sequences or mixed-suit groups cannot be moved as a unit.
  • Redeal Restriction: Only one redeal of the waste pile into the stock is permitted per game.
  • Reserve Limitation: Only the top card of the reserve is ever available for play.
  • Waste Play: Only the top card of the waste pile is available for play to the tableau or foundation.

No additional unique exceptions or alternate win conditions are specified for Coyote Solitaire in official sources.
