The primary goal in Double Jane Solitaire is to move all 208 cards (from four standard 52-card decks) to the sixteen foundation piles. Each foundation must be built up in ascending order by suit, starting with Ace and ending with King.
Setup & Layout:
Deck: Four standard 52-card decks are used, totaling 208 cards.
Tableau: Thirteen tableau piles are created. The first pile receives one card, the second pile two cards, and so on up to thirteen cards in the thirteenth pile. All tableau cards are dealt face up.
Foundations: Sixteen foundation piles are set aside. All start empty.
Stock: The remaining cards after the tableau is dealt form the stock pile, placed face down.
Waste: A single waste pile is used, where cards from the stock are dealt face up.
Key Play Areas:
Tableau: Main area for building sequences and maneuvering cards.
Foundations: Where completed ascending suit sequences are built.
Stock: Supplies additional cards to the waste pile.
Waste: Holds face-up cards drawn from the stock; only the top card is available for play.
Double Jane Solitaire Rules:
Foundations:
Foundations are built up by suit from Ace to King (e.g., Ace♠, 2♠, 3♠, …, King♠).
Only an Ace can be moved to an empty foundation pile.
Only the next higher card of the same suit may be placed on a foundation (e.g., 6♠ on 5♠).
Tableau:
Tableau piles are built down by rank, regardless of suit (e.g., 6♠ onto any 7, regardless of suit).
Only a King or a valid sequence starting with a King may be moved to an empty tableau pile.
Sequences of cards built down by the same suit can be moved together as a group.
Single cards or valid sequences can be moved between tableau piles, following the building rules.
Stock & Waste:
When no further moves are available, one card is dealt from the stock to the waste pile, face up.
Only the top card of the waste pile is available for play to the tableau or foundations.
Gameplay:
On each turn, the player may:
Move cards or valid sequences within the tableau, following the building rules.
Move cards from the tableau or waste to the foundations, if legal.
Move cards from the waste to the tableau, if legal.
If no moves are possible, deal one card from the stock to the waste pile.
Play continues until either all cards are moved to the foundations or no more legal moves exist and the stock is exhausted.
Winning & Losing Conditions:
Winning: The game is won when all 208 cards are successfully moved to the sixteen foundation piles, each completed from Ace to King in the same suit.
Losing/Unwinnable State: The game is lost or becomes unwinnable if no legal moves remain and the stock is depleted, with incomplete foundations.
Special Rules & Edge Cases:
Filling Empty Tableau Spaces: Only a King or a valid sequence starting with a King may be moved to an empty tableau pile.
Moving Sequences: Only sequences of cards built down by the same suit may be moved together as a group between tableau piles.
Stock Depletion: Once the stock is empty, no further cards can be drawn; play continues only with the cards in the tableau and waste.
Waste Pile: Only the top card of the waste pile is available for play; cards beneath cannot be accessed until the top card is moved.
Note: Double Jane Solitaire is a large-scale, skill-based patience game. The odds of winning are high (about 90%) when played optimally.
