The primary goal in Double Limited Solitaire is to build all cards onto the foundation piles according to suit and in ascending order, starting from Ace and ending with King.
Setup & Layout:
Use a single standard 52-card deck.
Tableau: Arrange sixteen tableau piles, each containing three cards splayed downward (overlapping so all are visible).
All cards are dealt face-up in the tableau; there are no face-down cards in this variant.
There are no separate stock, waste, or reserve piles in the initial setup.
Foundations: Space should be left for four foundation piles, one for each suit.
Key Play Areas:
Tableau: Sixteen piles of three face-up cards each.
Foundations: Four piles, one for each suit, to be built from Ace to King.
Double Limited Solitaire Rules:
Card Movement: You may move cards within the tableau, but only onto a pile where the top card is exactly one rank higher than the card being moved (i.e., you build down by rank).
Building Sequences: Building is strictly by rank (one lower), regardless of suit or color. For example, a 6 can be placed on a 7 of any suit.
Moving Cards: Only single cards may be moved at a time; sequences cannot be moved together.
Foundations: Cards are moved to the foundations in ascending order by suit, starting with the Ace and ending with the King.
Gameplay:
On your turn, scan the tableau for any legal moves (moving a card onto another tableau pile if it is one rank lower).
Move any available Aces to the foundation piles as soon as possible.
Continue building foundations in ascending order by suit.
If a tableau pile becomes empty, it may not be refilled; empty spaces remain empty.
Play continues until no more legal moves can be made from the tableau to the foundations or between tableau piles.
Winning & Losing Conditions:
Win Condition: The game is won when all cards are successfully moved to the foundation piles, sorted by suit from Ace to King.
Loss Condition: The game is lost or considered unwinnable if no further legal moves can be made and not all cards have been placed on the foundations.
Special Rules & Edge Cases:
Empty Tableau Piles: Once a tableau pile is emptied, it cannot be refilled; only the remaining tableau piles are used for subsequent moves.
No Stock or Waste: There is no draw deck, stock, or waste pile in Double Limited Solitaire; all cards are available in the tableau from the start.
Strict Building Rule: Only one-rank-down building is permitted, with no regard for suit or color.
Single Card Moves: Only individual cards may be moved; sequences or multiple cards cannot be moved together.
Note: Double Limited Solitaire is a highly restrictive variant designed for maximum challenge, with all cards visible and limited movement options. This distinguishes it from other double or multi-deck solitaire games that use stock or waste piles and allow more flexible building rules.
