The primary goal in Double Storehouse Solitaire is to move all cards from the deck onto the foundation piles, building each foundation up in sequence by suit, starting from Two and ending with Ace.
Setup & Layout:
Deck: Use a standard 52-card deck.
Foundations: Remove all four Twos (2♣, 2♦, 2♥, 2♠) and place them as the base cards for four foundation piles.
Storehouse (Reserve): Deal a specific number of cards (commonly 13 for single-deck, but for Double Storehouse, use two decks, so 26 cards) face down in a single pile, with only the top card face up and available for play. Note: Some sources for standard Storehouse specify 13; Double Storehouse variants use 26, but always confirm with the specific ruleset in use.
Tableau: Deal one card face up to each of the tableau piles. The number of tableau piles can vary; for Double Storehouse, there are typically 8 tableau piles (as opposed to 4 in standard Storehouse), each with one card face up.
Stock: The remaining cards form the stock pile, placed face down.
Waste: The waste pile starts empty. Cards from the stock are dealt one at a time to the waste pile; only the top card of the waste is available for play.
Key Play Areas Defined:
Foundations: Build up by suit from Two to Ace.
Tableau: Build down by suit.
Storehouse: Acts as a reserve; only the top card is accessible.
Stock: Draw pile for new cards.
Waste: Discard pile; only the top card is accessible.
Double Storehouse Solitaire Rules:
Foundation Building:
Build up by suit, starting from Two and ending with Ace (2-3-4-…-K-A).
Once a card is placed on a foundation, it cannot be removed.
Tableau Building:
Build down by suit (e.g., 9♠ on 10♠).
Only the top card of each tableau pile is available for play.
Sequences of cards in correct descending order and same suit may be moved as a unit between tableau piles.
Card Movements:
The top card of the tableau, storehouse, or waste may be played to the foundations or to another tableau pile, following building rules.
Only the top card of the storehouse is available for play.
Empty Tableau Spaces:
Automatically filled with the top card from the storehouse if available.
If the storehouse is empty, any card or valid sequence may be moved to fill the space.
Stock and Waste:
Cards are drawn one at a time from the stock to the waste pile.
The top card of the waste pile is always available for play.
The stock may be recycled (redealt) a limited number of times (commonly two redeals, for three total passes through the stock).
Gameplay:
On each turn, the player may:
Move the top card of the tableau, storehouse, or waste to a foundation if it fits the sequence.
Move the top card of the tableau, storehouse, or waste to another tableau pile if it fits the descending in-suit sequence.
Move a sequence of cards in descending in-suit order between tableau piles.
Draw a card from the stock to the waste pile if no other moves are available or desired.
When a tableau pile becomes empty, immediately fill it with the top card of the storehouse.
If the storehouse is empty, fill the space with any card or valid sequence from the tableau or waste.
Continue play, making moves and drawing from the stock as needed, until all cards are moved to the foundations or no more legal moves remain.
Winning & Losing Conditions:
Winning: The game is won when all cards are successfully built onto the foundation piles in correct ascending suit order, from Two through Ace.
Losing: The game is lost if the player is unable to make any more legal moves and not all cards have been moved to the foundations, or if the stock has been cycled the maximum number of times without completing the foundations.
Special Rules & Edge Cases:
Filling Empty Tableau Spaces:
Always fill from the storehouse if possible.
If the storehouse is depleted, fill with any available card or valid sequence.
Redeals:
After the stock is exhausted, the waste pile may be reshuffled and used as the new stock, typically up to two times (for three total passes through the stock).
Card Movement Restrictions:
Only the top card of the storehouse is available for play.
Cards placed on the foundation cannot be moved back to the tableau or any other area.
Sequence Movement:
Sequences of cards built down by suit in the tableau may be moved as a group.
Wrapping: Some variants allow building "around the corner" (Ace may be placed on King in foundation), but standard Double Storehouse does not; always confirm with the ruleset in use.
Multiple Decks: Double Storehouse uses two decks, so expect eight foundations and a larger storehouse/reserve.
Note: Double Storehouse Solitaire is a challenging variant. Always consult the specific ruleset provided by your source or platform, as minor variations may exist in the number of tableau piles, redeals, or sequence movement permissions.
