The primary goal in Limited Solitaire is to move all cards to the foundation piles, building each foundation up in suit from Ace to King.
Setup & Layout:
Deck: Use a double 52-card deck (104 cards total).
Foundation: There are eight foundation piles (one for each suit in each deck). All foundations start empty.
Tableau: Deal thirteen tableau piles. Each tableau pile receives one card face up at the start of the game.
Stock: The remaining cards form the stock pile, placed face down.
Waste: There is a waste pile next to the stock, which will be used during play.
Key Play Areas:
Foundations: Build up by suit from Ace to King.
Tableau: The main play area, where cards are arranged and manipulated.
Stock: The draw pile for new cards.
Waste: Where unused drawn cards are placed.
Limited Solitaire Rules:
Card Movement:
Only one card may be moved at a time.
Cards can be moved from the tableau or waste pile to the foundations if they follow the suit and sequence.
Cards on the tableau may be moved to another tableau pile if they are one rank lower and the same suit (e.g., move 9♠ onto 10♠).
Building Sequences:
Tableau: Build down in suit only (e.g., 10♥ on J♥).
Foundations: Build up in suit from Ace to King (e.g., A♣, 2♣, 3♣, …, K♣).
Empty Spaces:
If a tableau pile becomes empty, only a King may be played to fill it.
Stock and Waste:
Draw one card at a time from the stock to the waste pile.
Only the top card of the waste pile is available for play.
When the stock is exhausted, turn the waste pile over (without shuffling) to form a new stock.
Gameplay:
On each turn, the player may:
Move cards from the tableau or waste to the foundations if possible.
Move cards within the tableau, following the down-in-suit rule.
Draw one card from the stock to the waste pile if no moves are available or desired.
Introducing New Cards:
Cards are introduced into play by drawing from the stock to the waste pile.
No More Moves:
If no legal moves are available and the stock cannot be recycled (i.e., both stock and waste are exhausted), the game ends.
Winning & Losing Conditions:
Win: The game is won when all 104 cards are placed onto the eight foundation piles, each built up in suit from Ace to King.
Lose: The game is lost (unwinnable) if no more legal moves are possible and the stock and waste piles are both empty.
Special Rules & Edge Cases:
Filling Empty Tableau Piles: Only a King can be placed into an empty tableau pile.
Stock Recycle Limit: The stock may be recycled (waste turned over) only once. After the second pass through the deck, if no moves remain, the game ends.
No Multi-Card Moves: Unlike some solitaire variants, sequences of cards cannot be moved as a group—only single cards may be moved at a time.
No Building by Alternating Color: Building in the tableau is strictly down in suit, not by color or alternating color.
No Reserve or Cell Areas: There are no reserve piles or free cells in Limited Solitaire.
