How to play Lucky Piles?

Game Objective:

The primary goal in Lucky Piles Solitaire is to move all cards from the tableau onto the foundation piles, building each foundation by suit in ascending order from Ace to King.

Setup & Layout:

  • Use a standard 52-card deck.
  • Deal thirteen tableau piles, each containing four cards splayed downward. All cards are dealt face-up—there are no face-down cards in this variant.
  • Key play areas:
  • Tableau: Thirteen piles of four face-up cards each.
  • Foundations: Four piles, one for each suit, to be built from Ace to King.
  • There is no stock, waste, reserve, or cell area in Lucky Piles Solitaire.

Lucky Piles Solitaire Rules:

  • Card Movement:
  • You may add a card onto a tableau pile if it is one rank higher than the current top card of that pile, regardless of suit (e.g., place a 7 on a 6).
  • Sequences cannot be moved; only single cards may be moved at a time.
  • Foundation Building:
  • Aces are moved to the foundations as soon as they become available.
  • Each foundation pile is built by suit in ascending order (Ace, 2, 3, …, King).
  • Restrictions:
  • Cards must be moved following the "one higher" rule for tableau piles.
  • Only the top card of each tableau pile is available for play.

Gameplay:

  • On your turn, scan the tableau for available moves:
  • Move any available Ace to a foundation pile.
  • Move cards between tableau piles if the destination pile's top card is exactly one rank lower.
  • Move cards from tableau to foundations if they fit the ascending sequence by suit.
  • Continue making moves until no further legal moves are possible.
  • There are no new cards introduced during play; all cards are available from the initial deal.
  • If you cannot make any more legal moves, the game ends.

Winning & Losing Conditions:

  • Win: The game is won when all cards are moved to the foundation piles, each built from Ace to King in suit.
  • Lose: The game is lost (unwinnable) if no legal moves remain and not all cards have been moved to the foundations.

Special Rules & Edge Cases:

  • Empty Tableau Piles: There are no specific rules for filling empty tableau piles; once a pile is empty, it remains empty for the rest of the game.
  • Unique Restrictions:
  • Only single cards can be moved at a time.
  • Suit does not matter when moving cards within the tableau; only rank is considered (one higher).
  • No redeal or recycling of cards; play is limited to the initial layout.
  • Exceptions: If all moves are exhausted and not all cards are in the foundations, the game ends in a loss.

Definitions:

  • Tableau: The main play area consisting of 13 piles of cards, all face-up.
  • Foundation: Four piles where cards are built up by suit from Ace to King.
