The primary objective in Moosehide Solitaire is to move all cards from the tableau and the additional face-up reserve into the foundation piles, building each foundation up in suit from Ace to King.
Setup & Layout:
Deck: Moosehide Solitaire uses a standard 52-card deck.
Tableau: Deal 1 card face up to the first pile, 2 cards to the second pile, 3 to the third, and so on, up to 7 piles. Only the top card of each pile is face up; the rest are face down.
Reserve: After dealing the tableau, deal 4 additional cards face up in a separate row above or beside the tableau. These are the reserve cards and are all available for play at the start.
Foundations: There are 4 foundation piles, one for each suit. These start empty.
Stock/Waste: Moosehide Solitaire does not use a stock or waste pile; all cards are in play from the start.
Key Play Areas:
Tableau: Seven columns with increasing numbers of cards, only the top card face up.
Reserve: Four face-up cards, all available for play.
Foundations: Four empty piles, to be built up by suit from Ace to King.
Moosehide Solitaire Rules:
Card Movement: Only one card at a time may be moved, either from the tableau or reserve.
Building on Tableau: Build down in alternating colors (e.g., red on black, black on red) on the tableau piles.
Moving to Foundations: Cards are moved to the foundations in ascending order by suit, starting with the Ace and ending with the King.
Reserve Play: Any reserve card may be moved to either a tableau pile or a foundation pile, following the same building rules.
Tableau to Tableau: Only the top face-up card of a tableau pile may be moved to another tableau pile, following the alternating color and descending rank rule.
Filling Spaces: Only a King (from either the tableau or reserve) may be placed into an empty tableau space.
Gameplay:
On your turn, you may move any available face-up card (from the tableau or reserve) to either a foundation or onto another tableau pile, following the building rules.
When you move a face-up card from a tableau pile, immediately turn the next card in that pile face up (if any remain).
Continue making legal moves, using reserve cards as needed.
There is no stock to draw from; all cards are in play from the beginning.
If no legal moves remain, the game ends.
Winning & Losing Conditions:
Winning: The game is won when all 52 cards have been moved to the foundation piles, each built up in suit from Ace to King.
Losing: The game is lost if no further legal moves can be made and not all cards are in the foundations.
Special Rules & Edge Cases:
Empty Tableau Spaces: Only Kings may be moved into empty tableau spaces, whether from the tableau or reserve.
Reserve Cards: Reserve cards are always available for play but cannot be refilled once used.
No Stock: There is no redeal or stock; careful planning is required as all cards are visible and available from the outset.
Sequence Movement: Only single cards may be moved at a time; sequences or stacks cannot be moved together.
Unplayable State: If all face-up cards (tableau and reserve) are blocked and no moves remain, the game is unwinnable.
