The primary objective in Rouge et Noir Solitaire is to move all cards from the tableau and stock onto the foundations or to complete and remove four full King-to-Ace sequences built in alternating colors on the tableau. You win by either building all 104 cards (from two standard decks) onto the four color-matched Ace foundations or by discarding four complete King-to-Ace sequences in alternating colors from the tableau.
Setup & Layout:
Deck: Use two standard 52-card decks (104 cards total).
Foundations: There are 8 foundation spots:
The leftmost four foundations are for building up from Ace to King by color (two red Aces, two black Aces).
The rightmost four are for completed King-to-Ace sequences removed from the tableau.
Continue decreasing by one card per column, down to Column 9: 1 card (face-up)
Column 10: empty at the start.
Stock: The remaining cards after dealing the tableau form the stock, placed face-down.
Face-Up/Face-Down: Only the top card of each tableau pile is face-up; all other tableau cards are face-down until uncovered during play.
Rouge et Noir Solitaire Rules:
Foundations:
Build up by color (red on red, black on black) from Ace to King.
Only Aces of each color can start a foundation pile.
Tableau:
Build down in alternating colors (red on black, black on red).
You may move any exposed (face-up) card, or a sequence of cards in correct order and color alternation, to another tableau pile.
Only Kings or sequences starting with a King can fill empty tableau columns.
Stock:
When no more moves are possible, deal one card from the stock onto each tableau column.
There is no redeal; you go through the stock only once.
Moving Cards:
Any exposed card can be moved to a foundation if it fits the build sequence, or to another tableau pile if it fits the descending, alternating color sequence.
When a face-down card is uncovered, it is immediately turned face-up.
King-to-Ace Sequences:
When a complete sequence from King down to Ace in alternating colors is built in the tableau, it may be removed to a special foundation area.
Gameplay:
On your turn, you may:
Move any exposed tableau card or valid sequence to another tableau pile or to a foundation.
Move a card to an empty tableau column only if it is a King or a sequence starting with a King.
When no moves are possible, deal one card from the stock onto each tableau column.
When you move a card and expose a face-down card, immediately flip it face-up.
Continue play until either all cards are moved to the foundations and/or four King-to-Ace sequences are removed, or until the stock is exhausted and no more moves are possible.
Winning & Losing Conditions:
Win: You win if all 104 cards are either:
Built onto the four color-matched Ace foundations (from Ace to King by color), and/or
Removed as four complete King-to-Ace sequences in alternating colors from the tableau.
Lose/Unwinnable: The game is lost or unwinnable if:
The stock is exhausted, no more legal moves exist, and not all cards have been placed on foundations or removed as complete King sequences.
Special Rules & Edge Cases:
Filling Empty Spaces:
Only a King or a sequence starting with a King may be placed in an empty tableau column.
Dealing from Stock:
When stuck, deal one card onto each tableau pile from the stock. There is no redeal; the stock is used only once per game.
Sequence Removal:
A complete sequence from King to Ace in alternating colors can be removed from the tableau to a special foundation area at any time.
Exposing Cards:
Any face-down card uncovered in the tableau is immediately turned face-up and becomes available for play.
No Partial Foundation Building:
The rightmost four foundation spots are only for complete King-to-Ace sequences; single cards or incomplete sequences cannot be moved there.
No Suit Restriction on Foundations:
Foundations are built by color, not by suit (e.g., any red 2 on a red Ace).
