The primary goal of Sea Towers Solitaire is to move all 52 cards from the tableau and reserve (cells) to the four foundation piles, building each foundation up in suit from Ace to King.
Setup & Layout:
Deck: Use one standard 52-card deck.
Tableau: Deal 50 cards face-up into 10 tableau columns, each containing 5 cards. All tableau cards are always face-up and visible.
Reserve (Cells/Towers): Place the remaining 2 cards face-up into two of the four available reserve spaces (also called "cells" or "towers").
Foundations: Four foundation piles are positioned above or beside the tableau. All foundations start empty.
Play Areas Defined:
Tableau: The main play area with 10 columns of face-up cards.
Reserve (Cells/Towers): Four single-card holding spaces above the tableau, two of which start occupied.
Foundations: Four piles, one for each suit, to be built from Ace to King.
Sea Towers Solitaire Rules:
Foundations: Build up in suit, starting with Ace and proceeding in ascending order to King (e.g., Ace♣, 2♣, 3♣, …, King♣).
Tableau Building: Build down in the same suit only. For example, 7♠ can only be placed on 8♠, not on 8♥ or 8♣.
Card Movement:
Only the top card of each tableau column or any card from a reserve cell may be moved.
Only one card may be moved at a time, unless using a "supermove" shortcut allowed by some digital implementations, which simulates what could be done with sufficient empty cells.
Empty Spaces:
Only Kings (or sequences starting with a King, if allowed by the implementation) may be placed in empty tableau columns.
Any empty reserve cell may be filled with any single card from the tableau or another reserve.
Reserve (Cells/Towers):
Each cell can hold only one card at a time.
Cards in reserve may be moved back to the tableau or to the foundations at any time.
Gameplay:
On each turn, the player may:
Move a top card from a tableau column to another tableau column (if it builds down in suit).
Move a top card from a tableau column to a foundation (if it is the next required card in suit).
Move a card from a tableau column or reserve cell into an empty reserve cell (if available).
Move a card from a reserve cell to a tableau column or to a foundation, following the same building rules.
No new cards are introduced after the initial deal; there is no stock or redeal.
If no legal moves are available, the game is at a standstill and may be lost unless a previous move can be reversed (in digital versions with undo functionality).
Winning & Losing Conditions:
Win: The game is won when all 52 cards have been moved to the four foundation piles, each built up in suit from Ace to King.
Lose/Unwinnable: The game is lost or unwinnable if no further legal moves are possible and not all cards have been moved to the foundations.
Special Rules & Edge Cases:
Filling Empty Tableau Columns: Only a King (or a valid descending sequence starting with a King, if allowed by the implementation) may be placed in an empty tableau column.
Filling Empty Reserve Cells: Any card may be placed into an empty reserve cell, but only one card per cell at a time.
Supermove (Digital Convenience): Some digital versions allow moving a sequence of cards in a single action if there are enough empty reserve cells to accommodate the move as if done one card at a time. This is a shortcut for efficiency and does not change the underlying rule that only one card may be moved at a time in physical play.
No Redeal: There is no stock or redeal. Once all moves are exhausted, the game ends.
All Cards Face-Up: All cards are always visible, allowing for complete information and strategic planning.
Note: "Sea Towers" is also known as "Seahaven Towers" or simply "The Towers" in some rulebooks and digital adaptations. The rules above reflect the consensus from official and widely accepted sources.
