The primary goal in Spider One Suit Solitaire is to assemble eight complete sequences of cards in descending order from King to Ace, all in the same suit (typically Spades), and then remove each completed sequence from the tableau.
Setup & Layout:
Deck: Use two standard 52-card decks, but only one suit (commonly Spades), for a total of 104 cards.
Tableau: The main play area consists of 10 columns.
The first four columns each receive 6 cards.
The remaining six columns each receive 5 cards.
In every column, only the top card is dealt face-up; all other cards in the column are dealt face-down.
Stock: The remaining 50 cards are placed in a separate pile called the stock. These will be dealt to the tableau in sets of 10 (one per column) during play.
Foundations: There are no traditional foundation piles at the start. Completed King-to-Ace sequences are moved off the tableau as they are formed.
Spider One Suit Solitaire Rules:
Building Sequences:
Cards are built in descending order (King, Queen, Jack, …, 2, Ace), all in the same suit.
Only cards of the same suit can be moved together as a group. For example, a sequence of 8-7-6-5 (all Spades) can be moved as a unit.
Any individual card can be placed on a card that is one rank higher (e.g., 6 on 7), regardless of suit, but only same-suit sequences can be moved together.
Moving Cards:
You may move a single card or a correctly ordered sequence of cards (all in the same suit) to another tableau column, provided the move follows the descending rank rule.
When a face-down card becomes the top card in a column, it is immediately turned face-up.
Empty Columns:
Any card or valid sequence may be moved into an empty tableau column.
Gameplay:
Turn Sequence:
On your turn, move cards or sequences within the tableau to build descending same-suit sequences.
When no more moves are possible or desirable, you may deal a new row of cards from the stock: one card is dealt face-up to the top of each tableau column.
Dealing from Stock:
You can only deal from the stock if all 10 tableau columns contain at least one card. If any column is empty, you must fill it before dealing.
After dealing, continue building sequences as before.
No Moves Available:
If you cannot make any further legal moves and the stock is depleted, the game ends.
Winning & Losing Conditions:
Winning: The game is won when all eight complete, same-suit King-to-Ace sequences have been assembled and removed from the tableau.
Losing/Unwinnable State: The game is lost or becomes unwinnable if:
No further legal moves are available,
The stock is depleted,
And not all eight sequences have been completed and removed.
Special Rules & Edge Cases:
Filling Empty Columns:
Any card or valid sequence (regardless of suit) can be moved to an empty tableau column.
You cannot deal a new row from the stock if there is any empty tableau column; all columns must be filled first.
Sequence Removal:
Only complete, same-suit descending sequences from King to Ace are removed from the tableau. Partial or mixed-suit sequences remain in play.
Face-Down Cards:
Whenever a face-down card becomes the top card in a column, it is immediately turned face-up and becomes available for play.
Undo:
Many digital implementations allow undoing moves, but this is not a formal rule in physical play.
No Foundations at Start:
Unlike Klondike Solitaire, there are no foundation piles in play until a complete sequence is formed.
Definitions:
Tableau: The main area where cards are arranged in columns and manipulated during play.
Stock: The pile of undealt cards, used to introduce new cards to the tableau.
Sequence: A group of cards in perfect descending order and the same suit (e.g., 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-A, all Spades). Only such sequences can be removed from the tableau.
