How to play SpiderCells?

Game Objective:

The primary goal in SpiderCells Solitaire is to build eight complete sequences of thirteen cards each, descending from King to Ace within the tableau columns. Each sequence must be built down by alternating colors (red on black or black on red). Once a full sequence is formed, it is automatically removed from the tableau. The game is won when all cards have been removed by forming these complete sequences.

Setup & Layout:

  • Deck: SpiderCells Solitaire uses a standard double deck (104 cards: two of each card from Ace to King in all four suits).
  • Tableau: Eight tableau columns are created. Cards are dealt into these columns as follows:
  • All cards are dealt face-up in the tableau columns.
  • Foundations: There are no traditional foundation piles. Completed sequences are automatically moved off the tableau.
  • Cells: There are no reserve cells or free cells in this variant.
  • Stock: There is no stockpile in SpiderCells Solitaire; all cards are dealt at the start of the game.

SpiderCells Solitaire Rules:

  • Building Sequences: Cards in the tableau are built down in rank (King, Queen, Jack, …, Ace) by alternating colors. For example, a red Queen (hearts or diamonds) can be placed on a black King (spades or clubs), and vice versa.
  • Moving Cards: Only the top card of each tableau column, or a properly ordered sequence of cards built down by alternating colors, may be moved as a unit.
  • Sequence Removal: When a sequence of thirteen cards, built down by alternating colors from King to Ace, is completed in a tableau column, it is automatically moved off the tableau.
  • Empty Spaces: Any card or valid sequence may be moved into an empty tableau column.

Gameplay:

  • On each turn, the player may:
  • Move the top card of any tableau column onto another tableau column if it continues a descending sequence by alternating colors.
  • Move a sequence of cards, built down by alternating colors, as a unit to another tableau column.
  • Fill any empty tableau column with any card or valid sequence.
  • There is no stockpile or reserve; all cards are available in the tableau from the start.
  • If no legal moves are available, the game becomes unwinnable.

Winning & Losing Conditions:

  • Winning: The game is won when all eight sequences of thirteen cards (King to Ace, alternating colors) have been built and automatically removed from the tableau.
  • Losing: The game is lost or becomes unwinnable if there are no legal moves remaining and incomplete sequences remain in the tableau.

Special Rules & Edge Cases:

  • Empty Tableau Columns: Any card or valid sequence may be moved into an empty tableau column, providing strategic flexibility.
  • Sequence Movement Restriction: Only sequences built strictly in descending order by alternating colors may be moved as a unit; partial or mixed sequences cannot be moved together.
  • No Stock or Reserve: There is no mechanism for introducing new cards into play after the initial deal; all gameplay occurs within the tableau.
  • Automatic Sequence Removal: Completed sequences are automatically removed, and the space can be reused immediately.

Definitions:

  • Tableau: The main play area consisting of eight columns where cards are arranged and manipulated.
  • Sequence: A run of cards in descending rank, built by alternating colors.
  • Alternating Colors: Placing a red card on a black card or vice versa.

Note: SpiderCells Solitaire is a distinct variant that combines elements of Spider Solitaire and FreeCell but uses unique rules focused on alternating color sequences and no stockpile.
