How to play Streets?

Game Objective:

The primary goal in Streets Solitaire is to move all cards from the tableau to the four foundation piles, building each foundation up in sequence from Ace to King in the same suit.

Setup & Layout:

  • Deck: Use a standard 52-card deck.
  • Dealing: Shuffle and deal all cards face-up into eight tableau piles:
    • Four piles on the left (each with 7 cards).
    • Four piles on the right (each with 6 cards).
  • Foundations: Leave space for four foundation piles in a central column between the tableau columns.
  • Card Orientation: All cards are dealt face-up and fully visible; there are no face-down cards.
  • Key Play Areas:
    • Tableau: Eight piles (four left, four right). Only the outermost (top) card of each pile is available for play.
    • Foundations: Four central piles, to be built up by suit from Ace to King.
    • No Stock or Reserve: All cards are in the tableau at the start; there is no stock or reserve pile.

Streets Solitaire Rules:

  • Card Movement:
    • Only the outermost (top) card of each tableau pile is available for play at any time.
    • Cards may be moved:
      • To a foundation pile, if it continues the sequence in the same suit (e.g., 2♠ on Ace♠).
      • Onto another tableau pile, building down in rank (regardless of suit or color; e.g., 5♦ on 6♣).
  • Building Sequences:
    • Tableau: Build down in rank only, ignoring suit and color (e.g., any 5 on any 6).
    • Foundations: Build up in suit from Ace to King (e.g., Ace♣, 2♣, 3♣, …, King♣).
  • Moving Cards:
    • Only one card may be moved at a time; sequences cannot be moved as a unit.
    • Any available card may be moved to an empty tableau pile.
    • There are no restrictions on which card may fill an empty tableau pile.

Gameplay:

  • Turn Sequence:
    • Move any available Ace to a foundation pile as soon as it becomes available.
    • Move available cards to the foundations in ascending order by suit whenever possible.
    • Move available cards between tableau piles, building down by rank (suit and color do not matter).
    • Fill any empty tableau pile with any available card.
  • No New Card Introduction: There is no stock or reserve; all cards are in play from the start.
  • No Redeal: Once all moves are exhausted, there is no redeal or reshuffling.
  • Stalemate: If no legal moves remain and not all cards are in the foundations, the game is lost.

Winning & Losing Conditions:

  • Winning: The game is won when all 52 cards have been moved to the four foundation piles, built up in suit from Ace to King.
  • Losing: The game is lost if no further legal moves are possible and not all cards have been moved to the foundations.

Special Rules & Edge Cases:

  • Empty Tableau Piles: Any single available card may be moved to fill an empty tableau pile, regardless of rank or suit.
  • Multiple Empty Piles: There is no restriction on the number of empty tableau piles; use them strategically to access buried cards.
  • No Sequence Moves: Only one card at a time may be moved; sequences or stacks cannot be transferred together.
  • No Suit or Color Restrictions in Tableau: Cards may be built down in the tableau regardless of suit or color.
  • All Cards Visible: Since all cards are dealt face-up, there is no hidden information or uncertainty.
  • No Stock, Waste, or Reserve: The game uses only the tableau and foundations; there are no additional piles or redeals.
