How to play Suits Up?

Game Objective:

The primary goal in Suits Up Solitaire is to remove pairs of cards of the same suit from play, continuing this process until only four cards remain—one from each suit. The game is won if all but these four cards are successfully removed.

Setup & Layout:

  • Deck: Use a standard 52-card deck (no Jokers).
  • Initial Arrangement: All 52 cards are dealt face-up in a single line or grid, depending on player preference. There are no traditional tableau, foundation, stock, or reserve piles in this variant.
  • Play Areas:
  • Main Play Area: The entire set of face-up cards constitutes the play area.
  • Card Orientation: All cards are dealt face-up; there are no face-down cards in this variant.

Suits Up Solitaire Rules:

  • Pair Removal:
  • Players may remove any pair of cards that share the same suit (e.g., 3♦ and Q♦).
  • Only pairs of the same suit can be removed at any time.
  • Sequence Building:
  • There is no sequence building (ascending or descending order, by color, or alternating colors). The only rule for removal is matching suits.
  • Card Movement:
  • Cards are not moved between piles or areas; the only interaction is the removal of valid pairs from the play area.

Gameplay:

  • Player Actions:
  • On each turn, the player scans the play area for any two cards of the same suit.
  • The player selects and removes one pair of matching suit cards from the play area.
  • This process is repeated, continually removing pairs of matching suits.
  • Introducing New Cards:
  • No new cards are introduced during gameplay; all cards are available from the start.
  • No Legal Moves:
  • If at any point no pairs of matching suits remain and more than four cards are still on the table, the game is lost.

Winning & Losing Conditions:

  • Winning Condition:
  • The game is won when only four cards remain, one from each suit, and all other cards have been removed as pairs.
  • Losing Condition:
  • The game is lost if no more pairs of matching suits can be removed and more than four cards remain on the table.

Special Rules & Edge Cases:

  • Empty Spaces:
  • There are no empty spaces or piles to fill; removed cards simply leave the play area.
  • Unique Restrictions:
  • Only pairs of the same suit may be removed; rank does not matter.
  • No cards may be moved, stacked, or otherwise manipulated beyond pair removal.
  • The final four cards must each be from a different suit; any other outcome is not a win.
  • Exceptions:
  • There are no exceptions or additional rules beyond the core pair-removal mechanic.

Definitions:

  • Pair: Two cards sharing the same suit (e.g., both Diamonds).
  • Play Area: The complete set of face-up cards available for pairing and removal.

Note: Suits Up Solitaire is a highly streamlined solitaire variant focused solely on suit-based pair removal, with no tableau management, sequencing, or stock/waste mechanics.
