The primary goal in Swiss Solitaire is to move all 52 cards from the tableau and stock to the four foundation piles, building each foundation up in sequence by suit, using a unique "around-the-corner" rule that allows building from King to Ace and Ace to Two.
Setup & Layout:
Deck: Standard 52-card deck is used.
Foundations: Four foundation piles, each to be built up by suit starting from Two (not Ace), proceeding through King, then Ace, and wrapping around to Two again as needed.
Tableau: Nine tableau piles arranged in a pyramid-like fashion:
Deal one card to the first pile, two to the second, three to the third, four to the fourth, five to the fifth, four to the sixth, three to the seventh, two to the eighth, and one to the ninth pile.
All tableau cards are dealt face-up.
Stock: The remaining cards after the tableau setup form the stock pile, placed face-down.
Waste: One waste pile, where cards from the stock are dealt face-up and are available for play.
Swiss Solitaire Rules:
Foundations
Build up by suit, starting with Two, continuing up to King, then Ace, and wrapping around to Two (e.g., Q♣, K♣, A♣, 2♣, 3♣, …).
Any Two may be moved to an empty foundation pile.
Cards on the foundations may be moved if needed.
Tableau
Build down by alternating colors (e.g., red on black or black on red).
Building can wrap "around-the-corner" (King can be placed on Ace, and Ace on King).
Sequences of cards built down by alternating color may be moved together as a group.
Only Aces may fill empty tableau spaces.
Stock and Waste
The stock deals one card face-up to the waste pile when activated.
Only the top card of the waste pile is available for play.
Gameplay:
On each turn, the player may:
Move cards or valid sequences from one tableau pile to another, following the alternating color and around-the-corner rules.
Move cards to the foundations if they are the next in sequence by suit.
Move the top card of the waste pile to the tableau or foundation if legal.
Fill empty tableau spaces only with Aces.
When no moves are available, the player may deal one card from the stock to the waste pile.
Play continues until all cards are moved to the foundations or no further moves are possible and the stock is depleted.
Winning & Losing Conditions:
Win: The game is won when all 52 cards are successfully moved to the four foundation piles, each built up in suit from Two through King, then Ace, and wrapping as needed.
Loss/Unwinnable: The game is lost if no further legal moves can be made and the stock is exhausted, leaving cards stranded in the tableau or waste.
Special Rules & Edge Cases:
Empty Tableau Spaces: Only Aces may be placed in empty tableau piles.
Around-the-Corner Building: Both tableau and foundation piles allow "around-the-corner" building:
Foundations: Ace follows King, and King follows Ace when building up by suit.
Tableau: King may be placed on Ace, and Ace on King when building down by alternating color.
Moving Sequences: Only sequences built down by alternating color may be moved as a group within the tableau.
No Redeals: The stock is dealt through only once; there are no redeals.
Movable Foundation Cards: Cards already placed on the foundations may be moved if it enables further play.
Key Definitions:
Foundation: The piles where cards are built up by suit, starting from Two.
Tableau: The main play area where cards are built down by alternating color.
Stock: The pile from which new cards are dealt to the waste.
Waste: The pile where cards from the stock are dealt face-up and available for play.
This ruleset reflects the unique mechanics of Swiss Solitaire, emphasizing its "around-the-corner" sequencing and strict tableau filling rules.
