The primary goal in Yukon Solitaire is to move all 52 cards from the tableau to the four foundation piles, building each foundation in ascending order by suit from Ace through King.
Setup & Layout:
Deck: Use a standard 52-card deck with no Jokers.
Tableau: The tableau consists of 7 columns. Cards are arranged as follows:
1st column: 1 card, face up.
2nd column: 1 card face down, then 5 cards face up (6 cards total).
3rd column: 2 cards face down, then 5 cards face up (7 cards total).
4th column: 3 cards face down, then 5 cards face up (8 cards total).
5th column: 4 cards face down, then 5 cards face up (9 cards total).
6th column: 5 cards face down, then 5 cards face up (10 cards total).
7th column: 6 cards face down, then 5 cards face up (11 cards total).
Foundations: Four empty foundation piles are reserved, one for each suit.
Stock/Reserve: There is no stock or reserve pile in Yukon Solitaire; all cards are dealt to the tableau at the start.
Card Facing: Only the topmost card(s) in each tableau column are face up at the beginning; all other cards in each column are face down, as described above.
Yukon Solitaire Rules:
Card Movement: Only face-up cards may be moved.
Turning Cards: When a face-down card is uncovered in the tableau, immediately turn it face up and it becomes available for play.
Building on Tableau: Build tableau columns in descending rank and alternating colors (red on black or black on red).
Moving Groups: Any face-up card, along with all cards stacked atop it, can be moved as a unit to another tableau column—regardless of sequence among the moved cards—if the move creates a valid descending, alternating color sequence at the join.
Foundations: Build foundations by suit, starting with Ace and continuing in ascending order up to King.
Empty Tableau Spaces: Only a King or a group of cards headed by a King may be moved to fill an empty tableau column.
Gameplay:
Player Actions:
Move any face-up card (and all cards above it) within the tableau to create a descending, alternating color sequence.
Move Aces to empty foundation piles as soon as they become available, then continue building up each foundation by suit.
When a face-down card is revealed, immediately turn it face up.
Fill empty tableau spaces only with a King or a group headed by a King.
No Stock: There are no new cards introduced during play; all cards are available from the initial deal.
No Redeal: There is no redeal or reshuffling; play continues until all cards are moved to the foundations or no further moves are possible.
No More Legal Moves: If no valid moves remain and not all cards are in the foundations, the game is lost.
Winning & Losing Conditions:
Win Condition: The game is won when all 52 cards are moved to the four foundation piles, each built up by suit from Ace to King.
Lose Condition: The game is lost if no further legal moves are possible and not all cards have been moved to the foundations.
Special Rules & Edge Cases:
Filling Empty Tableau Columns: Only a King or a group of cards headed by a King may be placed in an empty tableau column.
Moving Groups: When moving a group of cards, the cards beneath the moved card do not need to be in any particular order or sequence; only the card at the join must create a valid descending, alternating color sequence.
Face-Down Cards: Whenever a face-down card is exposed, it must be turned face up immediately and becomes available for play.
No Stock or Redeal: All cards are dealt at the start; there is no stockpile and no redeal at any point during the game.
Note: Unlike Klondike Solitaire, Yukon allows for moving groups of cards regardless of their internal sequence, provided the join to the destination tableau column is valid. This is a defining feature of Yukon Solitaire.
